Sergeant LEONARD CHARLES GASKINS 1392668, 75 (NZ) Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died age 21 on 4 November 1943. Son of Charles Fredric John Gaskins, and of Mabel Gaskins, of Hilborough. RUNNYMEDE MEMORIAL
Sgt Gaskins was one of the seven man crew of Stirling EE897 AA-G which took off from RAF Mepal, Cambs at 1557 on 4 Nov 1943. Their mission was to lay mines in the Kattegat, (minelaying was known by the code name Gardening). The aircraft and crew were lost without trace. Two other 75 Squadron Stirlings were lost on the same night, they were reportedly shot down by night fighters. 75 Squadron was manned mainly by New Zealanders. WRC*

Flying Officer (Air Gunner) BERT WILLIAM GOLDEN DFC 179878, 35 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died age 28 on 21 February 1945. Son of Edgar Walter and Violet Mary Golden, of Thetford. REICHSWALD FOREST WAR CEMETERY
Lancaster ME335 TL-O was one of eleven 35 Squadron aircraft detailed to attack Duisburg on the night of the 21/22 February 1945. The aircraft failed to return to it's base at RAF Graveley and the crew were posted as missing. Six members of the crew were taken prisoner but Fg Off Golden was killed and was interred at Neukirchen Community Cemetery, but was reinterred at Reichswald Forest in 1947.
